La indumentaria femenina en Francia durante el siglo XIV adquirió mayor variedad, si bien se mantuvieron las líneas generales provenientes del siglo anterior. La prenda más usada era el gabán, de aspecto semejante al de los hombres, es decir, una túnica larga y amplia que se ceñía en el talle. A veces tenía mangas largas y falsas, pues se abrochaban en los hombros y caían hasta el suelo. Estas mangas extravagantes fueron una característica de la época, durante la cual el gabán fue evolucionando y se abrió a los costados para dejar ver una prenda ajustada llamada "cotehardie". Ésta se cerraba con botones o lazos en el frente, desde el cuello hasta la cintura; las mangas largas eran muy ajustadas y, por lo común, tenían botones desde el codo hasta la muñeca. Sobre la "cotehardie" se llevaba un cinturón bajo, apoyado sobre las caderas y que, por lo general, era lujoso, pues tenía incrustaciones de piedras preciosas. Las trenzas largas, caídas a los costados o arrolladas en espiral a ambos lados de la cabeza, eran el arreglo más común de los cabellos, protegidos, además, por diferentes tipos de tocados.

Long braids, falls to the sides or coiled in a spiral on both sides of the head, were the most common arrangement of the hair, protected also by different types of headgear.
